Dalamist

Glasgow based ceilidh band. For more information, please visit https://dalamist.bandpage.com

“Dalamist formed in 2012 with four Glasgow-based musicians; Louise Bichan from Orkney on fiddle, Lana Thomson, an accordion player from Shetland, Michael Ferrie, a guitarist from Stirlingshire and Stephen Henderson a drummer from South Ayrshire. Lana, Michael and Stephen all studied music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS).

Dalamist is a Shetland word used to describe a low lying mist. Lana and Louise being Northern Isles lasses, we’ve been playing for dances since we were old enough to pick up our instruments and so we know how to keep things lively and upbeat and make sure everyone gets involved! We will play for a big mixture of fantastic dances for all ages and abilities, including the Dashing White Sergeant, Gay Gordons, the Flying Scotsman, a great old dance called the Witches Reel and everybody’s favourite, Strip the Willow. We enjoy playing a mixture of traditional and modern Scottish and Irish tunes, including some of our self-penned tunes. If required, we can also provide music for a disco for the second half of the evening to keep everyone up and dancing into the wee small hours.

We are available for weddings and events across Scotland and the UK and are more than happy to travel further afield. (Louise has played ceilidhs for events/weddings in Syria, Oman, Lebanon, Kuwait and Greece, where Michael also played.) If you are interested in booking us for your wedding or event and would like more details, please get in touch, we would love to play for you.”

“Dalamist recently played at our wedding and were everything we could have asked for. The music was rich, lively and beautifully played and they ran the ceilidh with loads of energy. Our guests enjoyed themselves immensely, even overfilling the dance floor to the point that we spilled out on to the lawn outside! Even our more wary (English) guests who refused to be tempted to dance still commented on how much they enjoyed the music itself. All in all, Dalamist played a perfect ceilidh! Would definitely recommend.”

“We have to say these guys brought the only rhythm witnessed in the tipi all night. Louise managed to herd my family and friends, few of whom had ever danced at a ceilidh before, in some fabulous dances all while accompanied by two more fabby musicians Lana and Calum (who was nothing like Jim from the Corrs he was better) Thanks to you all. I cant recommend them enough.”

“I am not a great dancer as you will have seen but really enjoyed the music – my hairs were standing on end on a few occasions, even though I can’t dance!!”
